How is Your Digestion?

This is one of those “TMI” topics that maybe you only talk to one person about but it is something we should all be concerned with. How is my digestion? Am I pooping enough? And what defines ‘enough’? Let’s dive deep and see what’s going on inside your body...

First, let’s go over the basics. Where do you think digestion takes place? If you said everywhere, you’reoff to a great start. Digestion takes place in different areas of your body depending on which food you consume. Carbohydrates (sugar, fruits, grains, e.g.) all begin the digestion process in the mouth. There are enzymes called Amylase that begin the breakdown in that moment.

I know what you’re thinking,

“don’t all foods breakdown in the mouth?”...

Yes, you’re chewing and breaking down the food to swallow but these enzymes begin to digest and bring these necessary nutrients in through the cells of the body.

So how many times a day are you going NUMBER 2?

Only about 50% of people go to the bathroom (defecate) one time daily and less than 30% of people go twice a day! The rest of the folks go once every other day. If you feel things such as constipation, I would recommend doing the following:

1) Log your fiber intake for a couple days. Use a food app like MyFitnessPal or LooseIT, e.g.!
a. Men should have about 38 grams of fiber per day while women should have about 25

grams.

  1. 2)  If you don’t eat enough fiber, increase your intake and drink lots of water so that your body can

    absorb and release bowel later.

  2. 3)  If you notice your intake is fine, make sure you’re drinking enough water for your body size and

    activity level.

  3. 4)  Workout! Some physical activity encourage motility of the food to pass through (even walking

    for just 30 minutes).

“What about laxatives, that always helps?”

That’s an easy fix that is damaging the intestines. You’re drying up the intestines by constantly forcing the body to absorb water rapidly through the intestines to release bowel. This is bad for your body over time and can lead to chronic constipation, damages the colon and can lead to electrolyte imbalance or dehydration. The best recommendation is to repair the damage. If you’re constantly drinking laxatives or constipated, it’s time to fix your insides. Find two products: Digestive Enzymes and Probiotics. These

Enzymes enable the human body to

digest and absorb nutrients in food, and maintain all internal organ functions including: cell repair, anti-

inflammatory detoxification, improve metabolism and immunity, generate energy, and promote blood

circulation. Next, you find Pepsin in the stomach and these enzymes help breakdown proteins into

amino acids which aid in muscle building, growth and repair, and wound healing. Lastly, is Lipase, this

enzyme is the key for digesting fats. Lipase enzymes are found throughout the mouth, stomach and

pancreas to allow fats to be absorbed through the small intestines. While there are many more enzymes

to name, these are some of the key enzymes that help our metabolism and digestion.

two products taken over a few months span will have you becoming a regular with your toilet. It will not be a quick fix like taking a laxative but it’s going to repair the damage caused and increase the natural capability of your body. When looking for digestive enzymes make sure that they include those three key enzymes (Amylase, Lipase, and Pepsin) in the label or it is not going to function the same.

Are you ready to go number 2 with ease?
